Forskning om mangostan/xanton

Mangostanfrukten er en eksepsjonelt næringsrik frukt med en sensasjonell smak. Det er mange bestanddeler i mangostan som er ernæringsmessig gunstige. De viktigste elementene—xantoner, er svært stabile og robuste molekyler som viser biologisk aktivitet. Mangostanfrukten inneholder ca. 40 kjente xantoner, og de fleste av disse finnes i høy konsentrasjon i skallet. Aktive vekstemner som kalles flavonoler gir fordeler for kroppen. De to flavonolene som hovedsakelig er funnet i mangostan er catechiner (finnes i grønn te) og proantocyanidiner (finnes i druekjerner). Mens vitenskapen fremdeles prøver å evaluere anvendelsen av mangostan viser forskning at mangostans kraftige fytokjemikalier så langt er svært lovende. Mangostan har blitt studert i 150 år, resulterte i over 110 studier publisert i vitenskapelige tidsskrifter, og studier som inkluderte alle systemer i kroppen. Studier av mangostan øker eksponentielt med 15 stykker opp til 1980, 30 i 1990-årene og allerede xx siden 2000.
